Carbon Storage Boosted by Best Practice Guidelines

The North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) has issued new Stewardship Expectations to support the UK’s emerging carbon storage industry. The guidance sets out clear dos and don’ts for licensees, aiming to strengthen operational standards and accelerate industry growth.

The Expectations cover five key areas:

  • CS SE 1 – Risk assessment
  • CS SE 2 – Appraisal and sub-surface characterisation
  • CS SE 3 – Data acquisition and use for appraisal and monitoring
  • CS SE 4 – Technology development and deployment
  • CS SE 5 – Stakeholder engagement

Each section explains the regulatory need and provides a roadmap for compliance, alongside best practice recommendations to ensure safe, efficient and transparent project delivery.
