Eni has completed drilling of an appraisal well on the Hewett depleted gas field, which is covered by a licence issued under the NSTA’s inaugural Carbon Storage licensing round. This is the first well in the UK to be consented as a dedicated carbon storage appraisal well. Data gathered will inform development plans for the Bacton CCS project, which could provide storage for CO₂ emitted from the Bacton and wider Thames Estuary area, as well as potentially offering solutions for emitters across the European Union.
RMRI has been associated with the Hewett field project for almost two decades and we are pleased, as we support the ongoing dismantling of the existing gas production facilities, to see the field progress towards its next role, in the energy transition.
