An ‘MMV’ plan for a conventional geological carbon storage project must incorporate many different activities, covering both subsurface and environmental considerations, including:
• Pre-storage: A baseline must be established. This can rely on/utilise data including 3D seismic and legacy/new wells.
• During storage operations: Seismic and wellbore observations must be repeatable, for comparison with the baseline. This way, the evolution of the accumulating CO2 plume can be monitored for conformance with pre-determined models.
• Post-storage: Once closed, seismic and wellbore observations must continue at a defined interval, until satisfied that containment is successful and stable, before returning a licence.
