Northern Lights JV has chartered three additional CO₂ transport vessels, each with 12,000 m³ capacity. One goes to a consortium of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line) and MISC Berhad, and two go to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines. A second K Line/MISC vessel is due to be awarded in April 2026.
RMRI notes that Northern Lights’ owners are scaling committed capacity to match already-signed customer agreements, treating CO₂ transport as strategic infrastructure in its own right rather than a service layered on capture. This allows customers to scale commitments without a dedicated pipeline to a single site. Construction and single-point-of-failure risk on a pipeline are traded for scheduling and priority risk on shared vessels.
